Resident Survey

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced changes to drinking water regulations that require water suppliers to identify all materials used in the construction of the water system. The goal of these changes is to identify and remove all lead pipes in the drinking water system. The water supplier must identify all construction materials used on both the supplier AND the customer side of the water meter, which means that we will need your help!

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is requiring the water supplier to submit this information before October 16, 2024. If the required information cannot be gathered from the homeowner, KDHE may require the water supplier to excavate private lines to identify them. That would be very time consuming and expensive.

We need your help to complete this requirement. Please complete the Resident Survey and return to City Hall (mail, drop box, in office, or email to bcclerk@cityofriley.com).

Thank you for your participation!

Online bill pay is back on the website! The new system is user friendly with comparable fees.

Call City Hall (785-485-2802) with any questions.

Thank you all for your patience as we made this upgrade!

CITY COUNCIL MEETING

Meter Lids

Be careful this time of year when mowing.  As the leaves accumulate over your meter lid making them harder to see and easier to hit with a mower.  Accidents do happen and if a lid does get hit, call the city to have it checked.  We would rather get it checked and fixed right away and avoid having a meter freeze up later.

Cardboard Dumpster

This is a friendly reminder that the dumpster in the West City Park is for cardboard only.  Also, please break down the boxes so they are flat before placing them in the dumpster.  It is only emptied twice a month, so when boxes are thrown in without breaking them down it fills up quickly and causes a mess.  Please be considerate and use it appropriately.

North Central Regional Planning Commission

Household Weatherization Program

The North Central Regional Planning Commission (NCRPC) is administering the U.S. Department of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program which reduces energy costs for low-income households by increasing the energy efficiency of their home, while ensuring their health and safety.  Eligibility for the Weatherization Program is based solely on income; veification is done at no cost to the individual resident.  If the dwelling is a rental unit, the landlord must sign a landlord release form before any materials will be installed.  The City has a copy of the application with income guidelines or that information may also be found at the NCRPC web-site; www.ncrpc.org/services/housing/weatheriztion    Program link: NCRPC Household Weatherization Program

Habitat for Humanity

Larry Liotta from Manhattan Area habitat for Humanity came to a City Council meeting and gave a great presentation on what Habitat for Humanity is doing in the area. Not only are they involved in complete builds, but they also have the Habitat Repair Team for repairing, preserving and improving homes in Riley & Pottawatomie counties. Their new Aging in Place program serves older adults (65+) to help them with modifications or repairs that help them live in their own home safely and independently.  If you know anyone that could use some help check out their webpage for more information.
