Riley City Wide Clean-Up

September 28th and 29th, 2020

The City of Riley will be picking up debris sorted and placed by the curb Monday and Tuesday,

September 28th and 29thItems must be sorted or the city will not pick up.  Items put out after September 29th will not be picked up.

Lend a hand and clean up town by taking care of your residential property.  This is an opportunity to get rid of unwanted items.  Items must be sorted in the following manner:

o   Bricks, rocks and concrete

o   Large furniture

o   Brush and tree limbs

o   Wood, plywood and lumber

o   Grass and leaves (Biodegradable bags only, NO PLASTIC)

o   Appliances (with refrigerant removed)

o   Metal

NO TIRES, SHINGLES OR HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

WILL BE PICKED UP BY THE CITY

(Unacceptable items include electronics, televisions, paint cans, tar buckets, caulk tubes, batteries,

liquids, rags, books and paper, friable asbestos and processed lumber)

DO NOT PLACE ANY ITEMS IN OR AROUND THE ROLL-OFFS

THIS INCLUDES TELEVISIONS

Senior citizens:  If you need help getting heavy items to the curb, please call the city office at 485-2802 or the city shop at 485-2425.

Be reasonable with what you put out for pick up.  It is entirely up to the discretion of city employees to determine the amount they will pick up at any one residence.  The city will not spend 3 or 4 hours at one household picking up items.

Meter Lids

Be careful this time of year when mowing.  As the leaves accumulate over your meter lid making them harder to see and easier to hit with a mower.  Accidents do happen and if a lid does get hit, call the city to have it checked.  We would rather get it checked and fixed right away and avoid having a meter freeze up later.

Cardboard Dumpster

This is a friendly reminder that the dumpster in the West City Park is for cardboard only.  Also, please break down the boxes so they are flat before placing them in the dumpster.  It is only emptied twice a month, so when boxes are thrown in without breaking them down it fills up quickly and causes a mess.  Please be considerate and use it appropriately.

North Central Regional Planning Commission

Household Weatherization Program

The North Central Regional Planning Commission (NCRPC) is administering the U.S. Department of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program which reduces energy costs for low-income households by increasing the energy efficiency of their home, while ensuring their health and safety.  Eligibility for the Weatherization Program is based solely on income; veification is done at no cost to the individual resident.  If the dwelling is a rental unit, the landlord must sign a landlord release form before any materials will be installed.  The City has a copy of the application with income guidelines or that information may also be found at the NCRPC web-site; www.ncrpc.org/services/housing/weatheriztion    Program link: NCRPC Household Weatherization Program

Habitat for Humanity

Larry Liotta from Manhattan Area habitat for Humanity came to a City Council meeting and gave a great presentation on what Habitat for Humanity is doing in the area. Not only are they involved in complete builds, but they also have the Habitat Repair Team for repairing, preserving and improving homes in Riley & Pottawatomie counties. Their new Aging in Place program serves older adults (65+) to help them with modifications or repairs that help them live in their own home safely and independently.  If you know anyone that could use some help check out their webpage for more information.
