IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
Monitoring Requirements Not Met for the City of Riley
We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets health standards. During the First Quarter of 2018, The City of Riley did not monitor for the disinfection by-products of Atrazine as required by Kansas Administrative Regulations. Even though this was not an emergency, as our customer you have a right to know what happened and what we did to correct the situation. The state requires that we deliver this notice to you as our consumer.
What should I do?
You do not need to use an alternative (e.g., bottled) water supply. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor.
What does this mean?
This is not an immediate risk. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately. Some people who drink water containing atrazine well in excess of the MCL over many years could experience problems with their cardiovascular system or reproductive difficulties.
What happened and what is being done? The city was not sent a sampling kit in the 1st quarter of 2018 and then the city’s sampling schedule from the state changed. It was a failure to monitor in the 1st quarter but testing for all other quarters has been in compliance.
The issue has been resolved and the city is in compliance.
